About the Author
After the events recounted in Avrumele: Recollections of a Hidden Child, Albert Hepner (Avrumele) accompanied his mother to the United States and started working in the industrial metal cutting and precision tool business run by his mother's relatives. He joined the U.S. Army and served honorably in a guided missile unit in New Jersey. After his discharge and marriage, he eventually built a successful tool distribution business of his own and raised three wonderful and talented daughters.
Since selling his business in 1989, he has been teaching English as a second language to immigrants like himself who want to start a new life in America. More recently, he has begun to speak out about his early childhood experiences at schools, libraries, and civic groups in and around New Jersey, including the Rutgers University Hillel (New Brunswick, NJ), the Monmouth County Library (Manalapan NJ), and St. Mary of the Assumption High School (Elizabeth, NJ) so that future generations of children will never have to live in fear and hide their identities as he did.
